How this album came about:
My old band (Mother Tung), was signed to a management deal with Bobby Barth (AXE, Blackfoot, and others), in the early to mid-90's. The plan was to record a full album, that Bobby would produce and shop to European record labels. Of course, Mother Tung would 'effortlessly' screw that deal up. Years later, my friend Jim Genrich text me and said he had just heard "Rock n Roll Party In The Streets" on the radio. That was the spark needed. So, I contacted Bobby, and worked out a deal to record with him. 8 months later, here came "Clarified."
The title is based on Two Things:
It's always kinda haunted me not knowing how things 'would of, could of, should of' turned out with Mother Tung doing that album with Bobby. It was never about the money, or fame, or touring, but simply the experience of doing a "professional" album with a top-notch producer. That was now "Clarified."
The 2nd thing, I had always questioned my musical talents, especially my songwriting skills...it was during the process of making this album that I KNEW that "this" (making albums), was something I should and will be doing from now on...another "clarification" of sorts.
A True Blessing:
I was very fortunate to have been able to sit side-by-side with Bobby for the entire production of this album. Even though him and I had our ups & downs, I was able to learn from someone who has produced over 50+ albums, and is one of the main reasons I would be able to continue making my next two albums...for that I am truly grateful.
I'm also grateful to have been one of the last albums that Bobby would produce before retiring. He has written Many Great songs...one of them being in my top 5 favorite songs, "Now or Never" off AXE' 'Offering' album.
It was also great to have met and worked with Bob Harris (He was in Frank Zappa's band, with Steve Vai << enough said). He is one of the nicest, most easy-going guys I've ever been around. I'm fairly certain that he has perfect pitch, and has unbelievable control of his voice.
Also, it's worth mentioning, that I owe a big Thank You to Troy Johnson, who saved me when we went and visited Bourbon St..
That was such an incredible place, with so much great Live Music. I ended up getting WASTED, and Troy got me back to the hotel safe & sound. Thanks, Troy! :-) I hope to work with Troy on another album, sometime soon!
